Mission

The Assessment Committee is the faculty-led and faculty-driven committee that strives to encourage our colleagues to take part in the process of assessment. The committee is comprised of at least two faculty members from each division, plus support from ITS, the Library, the Vice President of Instruction, and the Accreditation Committee.

The Mission of the Assessment Committee

To promote an outcomes assessment cycle at Highline College that is constantly adjusting to student needs, consistently improving student success rates, and always helping the institution to realize its own mission.

Objectives

  • Encourage a positive attitude toward assessment as a constant and ongoing process;
  • Keep abreast of current assessment standards and practices;
  • Promote the use of a common language to describe assessment activities;
  • Provide information to faculty as they design outcomes assessment strategies;
  • Act as consultants to departments on issues involving assessment;
  • Support professional development opportunities related to outcome assessments;
  • Support the ongoing refinement of college-wide outcomes;
  • Act as a liaison with outcomes committees at other institutions of higher learning;
  • Align outcomes assessment policies and procedures at Highline with the requirements of relevant outside agencies;
  • Aid in the preparation of reports to relevant outside agencies;

“We must constantly work to ensure that our course outcomes, and teaching strategies are both relevant, and equitable to all students. Students must have a voice in their education. We must value their experiences and build upon what they already know. Systematically assessing our teaching methods helps us identify opportunities to improve student learning of course outcomes.” — Raegan Copeland, Interim Dean of Instruction, Transfer and Pre-College Education
